Connecting Claude.ai to Google Drive — step by step.
Drive cleanup, knowledge bases, saved research outputs. Setup is 3 minutes; the value compounds for years.
Overview
The Drive connector is the long-term compounding play. It lets Claude read your real files, save outputs to specific folders, and build topic knowledge bases that persist across conversations.
Setup steps
Open Claude.ai → connector icon → Google Drive → authorise. Pick the account whose Drive you want Claude to read.
You have a choice: broad access (all of Drive) or scoped access (specific folders only). For first-time use, scope to a single folder like /Claude/ — you can expand later when you've built trust.
What to do first
Save you.md to /Claude/ (see our you.md pattern article). Tell Claude to read it at the start of every session — or convert /Claude/ into a Claude Project so it auto-loads.
The Drive cleanup prompt
"Look at the top 50 files in the root of my Drive. For each: one-sentence summary, suggested folder, and whether it looks important, routine, or stale. Don't move anything — give me a table I can approve in batches."
