Overview

The first Claude Code project is the steepest learning curve. The trick is starting with something small enough that you can finish it the same day. A personal landing page or a single-page business site is perfect.

Pick a tiny scope

A personal landing page with home, about, contact, and one services page is enough. Don't try to build a SaaS on day one. Get one thing working end-to-end.

The opening conversation

Create the folder, run claude, then: "Scaffold a Next.js 16 + TypeScript + Tailwind site for a personal landing page. Pages: home, about, services, contact. Read CLAUDE.md and brand-brief.md (I'll paste them next). Don't add framer-motion or any UI library — Tailwind utilities only."

When you get stuck

Stack traces: paste them back to Claude. "This errored. Fix the smallest possible thing." Generic-looking output: tighten brand-brief.md. Most ugly output is upstream of generic context. Direction drift: end the session and start fresh with the lessons baked into CLAUDE.md.
