Claude Code vs Cursor in 2026 — which to pick.

Two great tools, different shapes. Conversational vs editor-native. Here's the honest pick by audience.

Overview

Cursor pioneered the AI-first IDE; Claude Code is Anthropic's terminal-based agent. Both are excellent. The pick depends mostly on whether you're already comfortable in an IDE.

Pick Cursor if

You're already writing code daily in an editor. The chat panel + inline autocomplete + agent mode trifecta is hard to beat for someone who knows what they're looking at.

Pick Claude Code if

You're not a developer. The terminal looks weird at first but the conversational interface lowers the barrier dramatically. You describe what you want; Claude writes; you ask it to iterate. Or: you're a developer who prefers a heads-down terminal flow without the IDE noise.

You can use both

Most builders we know use both — Cursor for inline edits in their IDE, Claude Code for whole-feature work or new scaffolds. The decision isn't either/or.
