Whois is public by default. WhoisGuard hides your contact info. Worth enabling.
Overview
Whois is the public database of who owns each domain. By default, your name, address, and email are visible. WhoisGuard masks them with a proxy.
Why mask it
Public Whois data gets harvested for spam — both email and physical mail. Masking cuts the spam to zero.
At Namecheap it's free
WhoisGuard is included free with every Namecheap domain. Just confirm it's enabled at checkout.
When to disable it
Briefly, when transferring a domain (some registrars require visible Whois for the transfer confirmation email). Re-enable immediately after.
