Overview

Transferring a domain takes about a week and costs the equivalent of one year's renewal. Here's the process and the gotchas.

Pre-flight checks

• Domain must be at least 60 days old. • Domain must be unlocked at the current registrar. • Get the EPP / Auth code from the current registrar. • Make sure the admin contact email is current — confirmation goes there.

The transfer

Namecheap → Domains → Transfer In. Enter your domain. Pay one year's renewal fee. Enter the EPP code. Confirm the email Namecheap sends. Wait 5-7 days.

Common pitfalls

Email confirmation goes to an inactive inbox. Domain still locked at old registrar. Privacy service hides the admin email — disable Whois privacy before initiating transfer.
