This CNA video looks at how policymakers are exploring ways to ease the costs and stress of raising children amid Singapore's record-low fertility rates. Its "Parenting in an AI era" chapter brings in Haojun See, founder of On The Ground, to talk about raising two boys — including a then six-year-old — who are growing up with AI as a normal part of daily life.

Haojun described how his younger son used AI tools to generate images of dinosaurs, printed them out, coloured them in, cut them out, and brought them into play in the real world. He drew a line between the two: he's more comfortable with AI supporting academic and real-life learning than with heavier, more passive use like AI-generated video.

Asked about the risks, he pointed to the danger of raising a generation that thinks less critically, and stressed that teaching children critical thinking — alongside safety and privacy awareness — matters as much as teaching them the tools themselves. He suggested schools, communities, and families all have a role to play, including running training and workshops so both parents and children understand AI's risks and benefits together.

He also noted how broadly children are already using AI day to day — for schoolwork and translation, but also for personal interests like gaming, and even shopping online — and that closing the knowledge gap between parents and kids is one of the more pressing challenges for families right now.
