CNA: teaching kids to use AI independently
CNA's Today Ground Up feature on AI in Singapore primary schools quotes Haojun See on why he's teaching his two sons — including his five-year-old — to use generative-AI tools independently.
Founder & Director, On The Ground

CNA's "Ground Up" series looked at how generative AI is entering the daily lives of Singapore's youngest students, and how parents and schools are guiding them through it. Haojun See, founder of On The Ground, was featured for how he's approaching this at home with his own two sons.
"At just five years old, Mr Haojun See's son is already intimately familiar with using artificial intelligence (AI)," CNA reported. The kindergartener uses generative-AI tools to sketch outlines of objects and creatures — dinosaurs are the current favourite — sends them to the printer, and sits down to colour them in.
"If I control their AI usage, and one day I'm not there, something has the potential to go wrong. So I started teaching them [to use AI tools independently] as soon as the technology was introduced," Haojun told CNA. He added that he's had many open conversations with his two sons about the possibilities, limitations, and potential harms of AI and other technologies.
